Calling all Blondes?
Even though blondes may have more fun that comes with a lot of maintenance. With any shade of blonde especially icy blondes, becoming more of trend a lot of people want the look but don’t understand the maintenance involved. It is easy to look at a picture and say I want this. As a stylist, I have learned that it is best to educate clients on what they are asking for.
For blondes it starts with providing the service of lightening their strands. The desired level of blonde may not happen in one sitting. What does this mean? Well… lets say you have dark hair those icy tones could require multiple visits with your stylists to achieve the desired level. Between visits it is up to the clients to maintain their blonde to keep the desired tone and strands in the best health possible.
✨What can you do at home to maintain your blonde?
You can start by investing in your investment. One of the main products I recommend to my clients is a pigmented purple shampoo and conditioner. Depending on how many times a week you wash your hair, the porosity and desired tone is how often I recommend washing your hair with the purple shampoo and conditioner. Typically this varies from one to two times per week. As blonde hair can typically be more dry it is recommended to do hair masques as well. Masques can provide strands with hydration, moisture and shine. Most masques can be done once a week.
✨Now let's talk salon maintenance….
Typically highlighting services for regrowth can vary from 4-12 weeks. With that said in between highlighting services I always recommend coming in for a toner. Toners provide your strands with multiple benefits. One is that it will help control the tone of your blonde. Second it can help add shine and dimension to your blonde hair. Lastly and I feel to be the most important is that it will seal your strands providing a protective layer. What exactly does this mean? When hair is highlighted it is removing pigment and color from your strands. By doing this if you were to take your blonde hair strand and hold it under a microscope it will look like Swiss cheese. When providing a toning service for a blonde it will deposit color into your strands filling in those holes. This is what will help with shine and keep your strands less exposed to environmental stressors.
✨What to take home from this…..
While blondes are beautiful they are maintenance. It is important to properly care for your blonde keeping the tone and health in tack. Always follow your stylists instructions for maintenance and invest in salon quality products. This will leave not only you happy but the health of your hair healthy as well.
